"Trace Me"

Project type

Installation

Location

UIC, Chicago, IL, USA

In this installation, visitors were invited to stand in front of a large white wall while someone else traced the outline of their shadow in crayon. As more people participated, the wall filled with overlapping silhouettes, building a colorful, layered record of everyone who spent a moment there.

This simple act — tracing and being traced — became a way to think about being seen and remembered. Each outline marked a person who stood still long enough to be noticed. As the shapes began to overlap, individual figures blended into a shared image, showing how our lives touch and leave impressions on one another.

The work reflects on what it means to be witnessed, and how even brief moments of attention can stay with us.
